The 2023 “Best In Show” presentation by the Park Bridge student team from Carlmont High School
EAA’s 2023 Bridge Showcase and Awards Event was held on Saturday, April 29 at the UC Berkeley Bechtel Engineering Center, marking the 23rd celebration of the Student Impact Project with exceptional participation by students, volunteer engineers, teachers and dedicated donors. Participating high school students spent nine weeks developing bridge designs for the replacement of the Hannam Bridge for vehicle and pedestrian traffic in Seoul, South Korea OR for a new multi-function bridge connecting local communities to Reagan National Airport in National Landing, VA, USA. EAA would like to the thank the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at UC Berkeley for hosting the 23rd Annual Bridge Showcase & Awards Event.
In-School Program
This year, 137 student teams from eight San Francisco, 12 East Bay, one Napa, and two peninsula high school classes participated in EAA’s in-class program. 28 Bay Area firms provided 47 volunteer structural engineers and architects to teach the weekly curriculum.
Event Highlights
A Keynote Address by UC Berkeley’s Matt DeJong, of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, featured inspirational designs and structures around the globe. Additionally, The Founder’s Award was presented to three bridges displaying exceptional creativity and awarded to the winning teams by EAA Founder, Ashraf Habibullah.
Winning Teams
Every student on a winning team received a trophy or medal. The awards and the program were made possible by the generous support of our donors.
